Odyssey writing assignment

THEME: I believe the theme throught chapters 11-22 is summed up into; Life needs to be valued by living to the fullest, being active, patient, and kind because you rarely get second chances.

Having patients is very important in life. In the Book patients allows others around you to adapt to the enviroment, Odysseus is patient with his trip back, because he is unsure that his wife is still full hearted for him. A quote from the story that represents patients is; "First i will transform you-no one must know you. In rags you'd hate to see some other mortal wear;......"(Pg. 299, 454-450). This Quote represents the patience Odysseus has, he has not seen his wife in years, and he disquises himself in search of her heart. Patients is very important, for the well being of the people surronding you.

Staying active and striving to acheive your goals is a necessaty in our world today. No matter how much faith and hope was lost on Odysseus's ship, he never gave up the reach to Ithaca. " I'm right here, here in the flesh-myself-and home at last, after bearing twenty years of brutal hardship. Now i know that of all my men you two alone longed for my return. From the rest ive heard not one real prayer that i come back again (pg.431, 233-239). This quote shows how hard Odysseus worked to come back home, yet he came back to a bunch of scoundrals.

Lastly it is important that life should always be valued. In the Odyssey Odysseus values his life to the fullest, he never took his life for granted, and even when it is rocky, he kept on pushing. "But you, Achilles, there is not a man in this world more blest then you...." (pg. 265, 547-560). This quote truly represents that even the most wealthy of people, may not be having the great life that you think they have, but foucusing on the true meaning and value of life, is truly special.

Martin Luther king junior was a hero

A true real life hero in my opinion was Martin Luther King Junior, who helped african americans receive their freedom in our world today. Ten Events from his life that support this are;

1. The first event that really brought him along to be a hero, was that he became a clergyman at the age of 18, at his baptist church.
2. The second event, that really kicked off his movements, was when Martin Luther became one of the leaders, of a civil rights movement.
3. The third event about Martin Luther, was he fought against segregation and racial discrimination in the 1950's and 60's.
4. King received a vast amount of awards, which really motivated him even more.
5. King was the youngest ever person to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in 1964.
6. He also led a bus boycott, that went on for 382 days.
7. He used no violent methods for the civil rights movement, in the ways of Gandhi.
8. His i have a dream speech, was his big boom that impacted millions of people.
9. After his assassination, people began to accept blacks for who they are, and he brought peace to our country.
10. MLKJ, was the main reason, segregation and discrimination is ended in our country today.

All of these events, was what truly made MLKJ one of Americas fondest hero's today.

Odysseus

I believe Odysseus is a hero because he stuck with his wife and never gave up on himself. He struggled long and hard to get back to his wife and son. He went through places where he never thought he would get out of like the underworld for instance, yet he believed he could and he did. I also believe Odysseus is not a hero, because he took his luxury time to get home while his wife was in pain. He did not show much strive to get home which makes him untrustworthy. Odysseus is a hero in some cases and not a hero in other cases, which really conflicts his overall appearence.

Telemachus

I believe Telemachus, son of odysseus, Is in fact a hero based on the elements of the Hero's Journey. He is a hero, because he never gives up in finding his dad. He eventually finds his dad odysseus, and all the hard work he put use, payed off. Telemachus never gave up on the search for his dad. This makes him a hero because he didnt even know his dad, and he still didnt give up on someone he didnt know. Telemachus is a true hero, because he saved his father and his palace all single handed.

Randy moss opinion

My opinion revolving around Randy Moss playing for the Vikings, was very shocking, because i never expected Randy to leave a solid team like the Patriots. The vikings got an all around great trade. I believe it will help them in the long run, but will it bring them to a Superbowl? I also believe that Randy Moss is very fast and likes to go deep allot. The question is, will 40+ year old Favre, be able to put it in the bread basket of the explosive Moss. My last point concluding this topic is can Randy keep up with all the young talented corners. Randy moss is what now 30+ age, and he is coming close to the end of his career, the Vikings should be picking up young talent!!! Instead of old farts that may have troubles with injuries. Concluding this blog post, i will say the vikings may have the golden arm of Favre, the speedy Randy moss, and they will most likely make it to the playoffs, but how long will the glory last. My prediction is they loose Favre after this year and are left with an ok QB. What good is Moss, with know arm to dish it to him???

Student who committed suicide at Rutgers University over the alleged outing of his sexuality.

When student Tyler Clementi at Rutger University, committed suicide off the George Washington Bridge, because of a live viewing of him kissing another man was preposterous! I believe a person like Tyler, should be treated with the same amount of respect any other person receives. Should Tyler's roommate Dharun Ravi, created a live chat video for the whole world to see Tyler kissing another man? In my belief this tragedy should in fact result in 5 years of prison for Dharun Ravi. I believe this because anytime a person does something to make fun of a person, or discriminates them enough, for the them to kill themselves, that person absolutely deserves a HUGE penalty in result. Tyler Clementi did not need to kill Himself but since he did, it was big enough to put Ravi in jail for sensible amount of time. No one ever deserves to take another persons life, this is one example of why are world today is dysfunctional. In our world today, some people can not accept a gay person like Tyler, or any other specific difference. So in conclusion, i believe everyone should be treated with equal respect, and that Dharun should be sentenced to time in jail and fined for however much is needed to cure the heart of the Clementi family.

The bearfoot bandit story

Once upon a time there was boy named Colton Harris-Moore also known as the barefoot bandit, had a rough childhood growing up. His family fought a lot and, his father ended up dying when he was only 9 years old. Not having this father influences, and getting into fights with his mother constantly, he became kind of a trouble maker and had no reason for life as it was. At the age of 12 he thought it would be cool to steal different things. Sometimes these objects he stole were of no use to him, sometimes they were for just luxury. Colton started off stealing little things like a cell phone. As he progressed he thought of steeling an airplane. After his thefts, the cops caught him and he was categorized as a juvenile delinquent. He eventually escaped Juvenile Hall, and he began his crime spree. At the age of 17 he stole his first plane (a Cessna 182) and while in the air he taught himself how to fly. At this point the cops were all over him so he decided to land on the islands of Camano. He also had a partner in crime during these affairs and his code name was Harley Davidson. After one year of stealing 3 planes and avoiding the cops he crash landed for the last time in the Bahamas. This was his last run. The cops finally tracked him down in the Bahamas, after 20,000 plus facebook fans, leaving notes, robbing numerous drug stores, and stealing objects as big as private planes, Colton was a worldwide idol and is proudly given the name Barefoot Bandit.

Keys/guidelines:
1. strange birth- dead dad(age 9) fights with mom, mom tells him hes no good and is better off dead.
2. belly of whale- stole phone, ipod,(12) etc.. sent to Juvenile Hall (16).
3. Heros partner- Harley davidson.
4. ordeals- escapse Juvenile Hall.
5. temptation- steeling for luxury.
6. rescue from without- Harvey helped Colt along the way, rub with the cops and money.
7. special gift- he was gifted with superb learning skills, for instance, flying a plane with no backround/training.
8. final battle- stealing the Cessa 182 plane, getting caught by the cops in the Bahamas.
9. magic flight- when Colt flew away, by plane.
10. freedom to live- mom didn't want him, fled from cops for over one year.

Tony Esposito (Legendary hockey hall of fame goalie)

Tony Esposito
(Born April 23, 1943)

Tony Esposito is a legendary hockey hall of fame goalie who spent most of his career playing for the Chicago Blackhawks. He played 3 years of college hockey and 14 years of proffessional. Tony has many hero traits as well; his call to adventure was to win the stanley cup. He ended up winning the stanley cup his first year on the Canadiens, yet he only played 13 games. Tony's supernatural guide throughout his carreer was his older brother Phil Esposito, whom also played in the NHL. Tony's crossing the threshold began in 1962 when he left home to play in the USHL. His belly of the whale was when he started with the Blackhawks, he was drivin to win the Stanley cup twice. Tony's partner was his whole team, every year he played on a team. After Tony won his first Cup he was drivin as a hero's deed to be in the NHL hall of fame. As Phil left to play on other teams Tony looses his guide. Esposito's boon's were all of his pads, to make all the great saves that he did. Tony sacrificed his role when he got traded to different teams, but once he stuck with the Blackhawks, you can never betray. Tony's Elixir was his helmet. Tony had one of the first helmets as a hockey goalie, and his stood out the most.

Luke skywalker double bubble

In the great, classical movie of Star wars, and the short story of Blue diamond. I believe their are some similarities and differences. In both stories i believe the hero learns to cope with their surroundings both physically and mentally, throughout their journeys. In the movie Star Wars, the main character, Luke Skywalker, is very similar to Doug, in Blue Diamond. One similarity between the too is that they both have saved a person/persons through dangerous situations. Luke saves Princess Laea as she was trapped in the death star. Doug on the other hand saves his friend from committing suicide. Having both of these stories be similar, i believe their are more differences. One of the differences would be that throughout Luke's journey to be the hero, he was gifted with the super power of the force. Unlike Doug, he was not gifted with any powers to help him cope with the difficult journey of the hero. The last difference between the two hero's would be their journeys took place in very different environments. Doug's journey took place in the big city of Las Vegas! Luke on the other hand, traveled around the galaxy planet to planet and most of the time battling on ships. Both of these hero's struggled long and hard to earn the title of the hero and the one similarity that matter the most, was that they both succeeded.
